Ensure the Roof of Your Commercial Property Is ‘Safe for Continued Use’.
It’s Your Legal Responsibility.
If you own commercial property with a timber roof structure and want to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, this service we offer is for you.
We offer roof inspection and reporting services to owners of commercial buildings to enable them to comply with their responsibilities, as set out in the Construction Regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and avoid costly legal claims. Here is an extract of from Section 11(2): –[2014]
Very often, timber roof structures in South Africa are installed inadequately but do not show obvious signs of weakness until years later. This is due to the resilience of the timber and the safety factors built into the design. However, these inherent weaknesses do show up eventually, often with catastrophic failure as a result. Avoid this by ensuring your roof structure is inspected regularly and maintained to remain ‘safe for continued use’.
What our service is about:
- Ensuring a safe working environment for the tenants of your commercial property.
- A thorough inspection of the timber roof structure for relevant bracing, connection and installation details will be carried out.
- The roof structure will be inspected for any structural damage to the trusses, their connector plates or bracing.
- Inspection of any abnormal deflections or sagging will be inspected for.
- Any rational designs of the roof structure that are available can be reviewed.
- A comprehensive roof report will be compiled, highlighting any potential concerns for the safety of the roof structure.
- We also keep your inspection reports backed up (off-site), in case you are ever required to present proof of keeping these records.
Additional Services:
- In collaboration with industry leading Timber Structure Engineers, a complete remedial advice is offered as an additional service.
- Remedial specifications, as well as, a Bill of Quantities can be offered on request.
- Supervision during the remedial and refurbishment phase is also available.
- Where professional remedial advice was required and applied, the roof structure can again be certified and covered by the Professional Indemnity insurance of Timber Structure Engineers, reducing the risk for the property owner.
